Relativistic Hall effect.
We consider the relativistic deformation of quantum waves and mechanical bodies carrying intrinsic angular momentum (AM). When observed in a moving reference frame, the centroid of the object undergoes an AM-dependent transverse shift. This is the relativistic analogue of the spin-Hall effect, which occurs in free space without any external fields. Remarkably, the shifts of the geometric and en...
متن کاملThe Quantum Hall Effect and Relativistic Hydrogen Atom
In two-dimensional electron gas when a large magnetic field is applied in one direction and an electric field perpendicular to it, there is a current in a direction perpendicular to both. This current is called the Hall effect. It remained without quantization until 1980 when it was found that the quantization leads to the correct measurement of h/e. Therefore, the quantized Hall effect was fur...
متن کاملLandau level substructure and mixing in the relativistic quantum Hall effect
We calculate the local density of states for a relativistic massless particle in the presence of crossed electric and magnetic fields. The Landau levels are broadened and aquire a modulation due to the electric field. We give detailed predictions for the shape of Landau levels in the relativistic case based on analytical expressions.
